Deep Oscillation Therapy

Deep oscillation uses electrostatic attraction and friction to generate therapeutic oscillations of soft tissue (back and forth motion, like a plucked guitar string). Deep oscillation is particularly gentle, painless and effective, reaching deep tissue structures such as skin, connective tissue, muscles, subcutaneous fat and blood and lymph vessels.

During treatment, the patient holds a titanium contact element loosely between their fingers or can have a small electrode pad stuck on their skin. The therapist can use the hand applicator or have the device running through her gloved hands. Clients report that the sensation is very calming.

Deep oscillation is particularly helpful for pain management, enhancing the healing process (post-injury or surgery) and managing swelling. DOT is currently on trial in the clinic. It can be included as part of myofascial release, scar tissue release or Manual Lymphatic drainage sessions targeting specific areas.

Here are some of the conditions DOT can assist with:

  • Acute injuries for the reduction of bruising, swelling and pain (not covered by ACC)

  • Persistent pain conditions, such as fibromyalgia and central sensitisation

  • Lipodema and lymphodema management

  • Fibrotic tissue (thickened tissue common in lymphatic conditions)

  • Scar tissue

  • Neurological conditions

  • Rheumatological conditions

  • Postoperative reduction of bruising, swelling and pain
